End of iconic Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

15 March, 2024 16:05

It looks like this is going to be the very last time we will see Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League, or we might have already.

It doesn’t sound right, but the reality is with just a couple of days remaining in the RCB’s unbox event, which is scheduled for March 19, the team is expected to reintroduce itself with a new identity.

It is the same path followed by Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, formerly known as Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab respectively.

RCB have teased the name change for a while and it is expected to be announced on March 19.

According to Hindustan Times, the team is likely to drop Bangalore from their name and replace it with Bengaluru. Although nothing is confirmed thus far.

The Virat Kohli-led franchise is one of the only three franchises from the original eight to have never won an IPL title, along with Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings.

Delhi Daredevils were renamed ahead of IPL 2021, while Kings XI Punjab evolved to the Punjab Kings, but both of them are yet to win the title.

Moreover, Rising Pune Supergiants were also renamed to Rising Pune Supergiant, dropping the ‘S’.
